Gordon Bartlett took the opportunity to play a number of youngsters and players who ‘needed a game’ in this Bryco Cup match away to 2nd division Kingsbury Town, and what a difference it made, as Stones started strongly and maintained their superiority for the 90 minutes.

After six minutes, Stones were awarded a free kick and Coutnage’s cross fell to Dave Ryan who shot home from 12 yards.

After a period of concerted Stones pressure, on 15 minutes good work from Swaysland created an extra yard and his cross was well met by Alexander who headed Stones second of the night.

Chances then fell to Ryan Swaysland and Alexander before James Duncan opened his account, beating his defender to the ball and then chipping over him, James’ second touch brought him inside his man and his third touch was a clean shot past the home keeper to make the score 3 – 0 on 39 minutes.

With the match over as a contest, Stones started strongly again in the second half, and a defence splitting ball from Shaw allowed Alexander to break on 54 minutes, his strong shot from 15 yards making the score 4 – 0.

Further changes were then made to the Stones line up, with Tucker and Fisher replaced by Lee Holland and Callum Martin, both making their debut’s. Stones continued top press and from a corner, the ball was cleared to James Duncan on the edge of the box – his first time strike hitting the underside of the crossbar on its way into the net for a 5 – 0 score line and two minutes later good work from Alexander resulted in a square ball into the path of Holland who shot the sixth, low from just inside the box.

Mickie Swaysland who had had a quiet night until then came into his own in the last quarter of an hour, scoring after 75 minutes with a header from another Courtnage free kick and then on 79 minutes he broke wide on the right, cut inside and he hit a low shot into the far corner to wrap up a comfortable 8 – 0 win.

A pleasing performance that must have pressed the claims for one or two of the ‘fringe’ players as Stones look forward to facing East Thurrock in the FA Trophy on Saturday
