WealdstoneDisrupted after only five minutes when an unfortunate injury saw Danny Reeve replaced by Joe O’Reagan, Stones had plenty of possession in the first half but struggled to break through a packed defence.
Marvin Morgan and a volley from Danny Tilbury the best efforts, but Hornchurch, delaying the game at every opportunity always looked dangerous on the break. Their first goal came from an error when the ball bounced high over the Stones defence on 41 minutes, sub Rothon on hand to head in at the back post.
The second half started in similar vein – Stones had the possession but again struggled to break down their opponents and they Hornchurch extended their lead on 71 minutes when Jones broke away to shoot home after Stones failed to clear their lines. Still pressing on to try and score, Stones were caught again when Joe O’Reagan was dispossessed on half way and a cross field ball found Danny Benstock who drove firmly past Godfrey for the third home goal.
The frustration was evident through the fans and the team as a less than firm Referee seemed content to allow the timewasting, merely adding on the time and three attempts at making a substitution from the home side broke up the flow of the game, but the end result was the home side taking their chances while Stones efforts were a story of near misses and two excellent saves from the home keeper.
