Stones continued where they left off this afternoon with a convincing win over neighbours Hendon.

Started looked sharp from the off and took the lead on four minutes when a long clearance was brought down by Richard Jolly. His excellent first touch allowed him to cut inside his defender and unleash a shot which gave Thomas in the home goal no chance.

The next ten minutes were crucial however, as Stones defended well under pressure from Hendon, and also rode their luck on a couple of accessions to keep the home side scoreless. Woeful marking allowed Hendon’s forwards free headers on two occasions and only sharp reaction from Jackson in the Stones goal preserved the lead.

As the half wore on, Stones settled into their stride and controlled the game well, challenging and defending every option tried by the home side, and creating chances for White, Beckford and Jolly, Thomas doing enough with his defenders to prevent Stones from extending their lead.

The second half was a different latter as Stones pressed forward time after time. Burrell, Beaney, Beckford and Jolly could all have extended the lead before another run from Beaney created Stones second goal. He broke into the box and turned Cook inside out before the defender pulled him to the ground to concede a penalty which was duly despatched by Beckford.

Stones continued to press forward and Jolly and Beckford again saw chances go begging while efforts from Beaney and Montgomery were well saved.

Stones third came in the 83rd minute when Beaney again broke forward into the box. Hios shot was blocked and the rebound fell to Burrell who powered into the box before shooting home from 6 yards to seal a comprehensive victory and to give Stones a brighter outlook as the New Year starts.
