Harlow Goodbye...

A dismal match in a dismal stadium with a dismal crowd. The game started with less edge than most of the recent games, but with a fair share of niggling fouls from both teams, Wealdstone just about shading the first half on possession and chances, although it was Harlow that took the lead on 39 minutes when a naive challenge from Tucker conceded a penalty.

Their lead was only to last about 30 seconds however as from the kick off, the ball was fed to Tucker on the right and he played the ball in to Tilbury who controlled it on his chest, and as the ball dropped he struck a sweet shot into the back of the Harlow net to equalise, and spare Tuckers blushes.

A minute before half time, Harlow goal-scorer Hooker was stretchered off with a suspected Broken Leg after an innocuous challenge that most people in the ground missed – some no doubt wishing they had missed a little more of the first half.

The second half saw Harlow start brighter, and they restored their lead on 48 minutes through Cowley, with the defence failing to clear their lines and the eventual deflected shot wrong footing Watts.

Stones tried to get back on even terms, Tilbury, Holmes, Walker and Morgan all having chances, the best being a shot from Lamb which was blocked on the line with what looked suspiciously like a hand, but not seen by the officials.

As Stones pressed to equalise, Harlow had the better chances, hitting the post and just missing from 1 on 1’s before they finally scored a flattering third goal in injury time.

Honest Opinion? The battling edge was missing tonight from the Stones game and when it all you have, it’s sorely missed.
