Great Wakering Rovers 0 – 0 Wealdstone

With Andy Carter still missing through injury and Danny Butler suspended, Gordon Bartlett changed both the formation and the personnel for this fixture at Great Wakering, but with both sides playing effectively with five in midfield, there was little action at either end, as Wakering’s endeavour foiled Stones despite them being the better side for long spells, chances very limited at either end.
Stones started brightly, Duncan unlucky in the first few seconds, and Jolly hitting the post from close in after 6 minutes, but the next incident of any consequence was an injury to Stones goalkeeper, Charlie Leary which saw Dave Ryan take on the goalkeeping duties for the second time, mid-match.
He had little to do for ten minutes or so but then a beak by the home side allowed Deakin through, Ryan doing well to save at his feet in a one on one situation.
The second half saw Stones on top again, but failing to threaten the home goal as Morgan and Duncan were both involved early on – neither achieving the final shot, and Stones best effort of the half saw a Williams free kick just inches wide.
Wakering showed the greater passion and their work rate was enough to stifle Stones, no doubt as one or two players had an eye on next week, and the home side should really have done better with their two or three second half chances.
They did get the ball past Ryan once in the half, but Billy Amartiefio was on hand on the line to clear as despite the abilities and eagerness on a difficult pitch, neither side could make a break through.
