Chesham United 1 – 3 Wealdstone
1 - 3
Stones got into their stride early on at Chesham, following on from a good win at Tilbury on Tuesday evening, and it wasn’t long before they had created their first chance, as on 7 minutes Richard Jolly was put through by Tommy Williams only for the home keeper to save with his feet.
Stones did take the lead on 18 minutes, when good work from Shaw on the right allowed him the space to float in across which Morgan met and powered home his header to give Stones the lead.
Eight minutes later though and the scores were level when a deep cross found Richardson, and he gave Carter no chance with his header. In fact Chesham could have taken the lead minutes later when a similar move was only thwarted by an excellent save from Carter from close range.
Jolly did have a chance or two to put Stones back into the lead, but his second chance went inches wide, while the home keeper also pulled of a fine save from a third Jolly attempt, injuring his hand in the process.
Just before half time, Jolly did get the breakthrough when a strong run from Morgan into the box saw him play a square ball to Williams, he too laid the ball off and Jolly made no mistake from 6 yards.
Chesham substituted their goalkeeper at half time, luckily having a reserve on the bench, but it was Stones who dominated play for long periods. Much of the play though was in midfield as the heat took its toll of both sides, and it wasn’t until the last five minutes that Stones extended their lead.
Rob Courtnage was fouled on the half way line and Matt Carvell strode up to take the free kick. He found Alexander who did enough with his header under pressure to release the tireless Morgan, and he scored Stones third with a good strike from a tight angle, to give stones the points they deserved.
