Braintree Town 1 – 2 Wealdstone

1 - 2
Stones were forced into a couple of changes before todays match with goalkeeper Glenn Jackson unavailable through work and Ross White and Kenny Beaney with Flu and a Stomach Bug also forced to pull out on the day, but the young Stones side took full advantage of their chance going on to win the match 2-1 and progressing to the last 8 of the League Westview Cup.
The first half was tightly contested with Braintree perhaps having the better of early exchanges. Stones lost Carl Ashton injured after 20 minutes to further disrupt the side, but the score remained 0-0 at half-time. Stones started the second half better and they took the lead on the hour when the home keeper failed to deal with Jolls speculative 25-yarder which crept under his body and just inside the post for 1-0.
A few minutes later a Jermaine run found Graeme Montgomery, who rifled goalwards from the edge of the box and saw the ball deflect off a defender’s foot into the roof of the net to give Stones a 2-0 lead.
Braintree pulled a goal back in a melee in the area a few minutes later, and as the half drew to a close they put the Stones back line under tremendous pressure, hitting the woodwork on a couple of occasions, but Wealdstone held on for the win, and George Borg, as ungracious as ever walked off before the end rather than waiting to shake the hands of the visiting management.
