Boreham Wood 3 – 2 Wealdstone
3 - 2
Stones lost this match in the first quarter of an hour as poor defending allowed the home side to take a two goal lead.
The first on two minutes saw a cross come in – Andy Carter punched but only to the edge of the area where the ball was returned into the box – a free header across the box fell to the unmarked Winston who scored from five yards.
Twelve minutes later, another poor clearance was shot back towards goal and Grime managed to get his head to the ball to deflect it just inside the post, again with the Stones defence static.
Two minutes more and Stones started to play when Marvin Morgan broke into the box and scored to reduce the deficit, and it did start a better spell for Stones as they tried to get on equal terms.
The loss of Hemmerdinger on 35 minutes disrupted the side slightly, but Stones were still pushing forward although with little success and Boreham Wood were limited in their chances, despite each one looking more dangerous than Stones efforts at the other end.
The second half followed a similar pattern although the home side had more of the possession but it was a silly penalty that gave them the opportunity to extend their lead, Courtnage fouling Winston as the ball, from a cross, sailed out of play. Winstone made no mistake from the spot.
With Gedeking and Hunt brought into the fray, Stones looked sharper going forward and it was good work from Gedeking that again allowed Stones to reduce the deficit as he was fouled and Jolly stepped up to score from the spot.
It was not enough though, as Stones fell to their third defeat in a week and the season crumbles away.
