Bishop’s on a roll

There’s very little positive that can be said about a 7 – 1 defeat from a Wealdstone perspective, other than we equalised early on.

Stortford were rampant and aided by a number of poor performances, they made the most of the opportunities laid at their feet, Stones starting as they seemed intent in going on by conceding a penalty after 8 minutes, when Amarteifio fouled in the box, Vinny John scoring his first of the evening.

On 16 minutes, Stones in their only real spell of pressure throughout the match, equalised when Deadmans shot was parried, Hammatt challenging the goalkeeper and the ball broke again to Deadman who scored from ten yards.

Stortford though regained their lead a minute later when Fergus Moore fouled Vinnie John, the referee played an excellent advantage and Purcell ran on to beat Carter as he closed down, and from their on with parts of the Wealdstone side content to watch, there was only going t be one winner as the home side used their pace and passing to dissect a Wealdstone side that were chasing shadows.

A poor Wealdstone throw put Carter under pressure and he was robbed out wide by John who cut inside to score a third on 39 minutes, and the home side were unlucky not to score a fourth right on half time as the ball came back off the bar.

A second half change of formation saw Wealdstone lose all semblance of shape and they were torn apart whenever Stortford wanted to break through, four more goals coming from Braham on 52 minutes from a defensive error, another John penalty after 70 when Reeve fouled him on the edge of the box, Southam on 80 after a good ball put him clear, Carter only half blocking his shot which crept in and on 84 minutes when Paul was able to turn and shoot unmarked from the edge of the box.

Stones did manage to press forward towards the end, both substitutes, Pither and Somers having na impact, and Shaw saw a shot well saved just before the end, but all in all it was a dismal performance from a disjointed and shapeless Wealdstone.
