Honours Even

A fairly strong Wealdstone side started this fixture against full strength Berkhamsted Town, last seasons FA Vase finalists, and an even match ensued with Wealdstone just about having the edge against their industrious opponents.

One suprise for many in the starting line-up was the inclusion of forward Bryan Hammett, returning to the Club after three years away, and he soon justified his inclusion and subsequent signing by scoring both Wealdstone goals in a 2-2 draw.

The match started with Wealdstone playing the better football but it was Berkhamsted who took the lead after 15 minutes when former Stone, Neal Yates found room on the edge of the penalty bo and curled a lovely shot into the top corner of the net, beyond the reach of Nathan Cobb in the Stones goal.

Wealdstone had a couple of chances to equalise, the home keeper doing well to foil Morgan and Tilbury but after 29 minutes good work in midfield presented Hammett with a 1 on 1 chance and he calmly rounded the keeper to shoot home.

Both sides then produced a number of chances but a very debateable penalty awarded on the stroke of half time gave Berkhamsted the lead, Amarteifio adjudged to have handled when a shot hit him.

Best was to come in the second half as Wealdstone pressed on, Tilbury and Hammatt prevented from equalising by the woodwork, before Hammett found room some 25 yards out and turned and volleyed into the corner of the net for the equaliser. Numerous substitutions followed but Wealdstone continued to press on without further scoring, the match ending in a draw.

Wealdstone: Nathan Cobb, Tom Bryson (s70 Rob Ellis), Fergus Moore (s70 Nigel Reed), Billy Amarteifio, Shayne Chandler (s67 Robin Tucker), Richard McDonnagh (s50 Paul Lamb), Danny Tilbury, Bryan Hammett (29,64 s69 Victor Asombang) Marvin Morgan (s50 Lee Walker), Jason Shaw, Vinny Somers.
