Barking & East Ham United 1 – 4 Wealdstone
1 - 4
After last weeks disappointing home defeat to Uxbridge in the FA Cup, Stones bounced back with a 4-1 win away to Barking & East Ham United. Adam Williams reports:
A scoreline that was a true reflection of play, although we struggled for a 30 minute period between about 30 and 60 minutes.
Having gone a goal up early on, Richard Jolly finding his persistence rewarded by getting the chance to cross low and hard for Danny Julliene to fire home from close range. From here on we dominated.
We hit the post, had a shot cleared off the line and hit the crossbar. However, we slowly let them back into the game and they probably just about had the upper hand on the closing stages of the half.
Second half saw us come out lazy. The pitch was an absolute dustbowl which reeked of neglect. However, it had no say in their equaliser, which was a long range shot giving Andy Carter no chance. Practically their first shot of the game. We struggled on, but the introduction of Danny Tilbury and James Fisher livened us up. It was Danny Tilbury who knocked the ball on in the box to set up Swaysland for a blistering volley to put us ahead.
From here on, we dominated. A corner from Tommy Williams was superbly headed home by Robin Tucker of all people.
Good work by Courtnage saw Swaysland grab his 2nd with an excellent header, rising above a challenge to power the ball home over the keeper. Full time came and the players received a great ovation.
All in all, a great afternoon with 3 of the goals excellent.
