Jonah Eats Ducks !

A suffering Aylesbury side were lacking the spirit and passion of Wealdstone and their fans, and despite the constant drumming during the match, Stones ran out victors by 2-0.

Wealdstone were second to everything in a quiet opening spell, but two changes, Joyce and Reed being replaced in the first half hour, saw Stones rise to and remain dominate for the remaining hour. Joyce was suffering with Flu and was replaced by the dominate Lee Walker – if his head realises his lack of fitness we’re in trouble, and Reed, only just recovered from Flu was replaced by Barima who showed a lot of heart for the battle.

The first half was close, Aylesbury probably shading the game overall, but they went in a goal behind – on 38 minutes, Carter won a challenge in midfield and ran forward laying a pass into the path of Jones who stepped on, controlled the ball and shot low past the home keeper to give Stones the lead. That was enough for the Aylesbury heads to drop, and although unable to bury the game, it never looked as though Stones would fail to win.

The second half saw Stones restrict the Ducks to breaks from defence, and their artillery was well handled by the Stones defence and Watts in goal, both walker and Dicker were dominating the aerial battle, and the rest of the defence and midfield clearing up on the ground.

Stones had a number of chances to increase their lead, Tilbury, Jones and Holmes all going close, before, in the 83rd minute, Jones won and took a free kick just outside the box on the right. His well flighted ball beat walker, Tilbury and Holmes, and their markers, before deceiving the keeper, positioned to save a header which never came, the ball creeping in at the far corner to give Stones a well deserved 2-0 victory.

Honest Opinion? When you consider that Butterfield was unavailable, Reeve was finishing a suspension, Burgess was suffering with Flu and Billy Amarteifio is also injured the spirit shown by the players was superb, with those four back in contention, Wealdstone will continue to pick up points, and that should be enough.

Wealdstone: Watts, Joyce (s22 Walker b44), Tucker, Dicker, Reed (s32 Barima), Lamb (b3), Carter, Jones (38, 82), Norman (b70), Holmes, Tilbury, Sub not used: Morgan,
