Stones were looking to put behind them the Boxing Day Slough Town performance when Oxford City were the visitors to The Vale for the last league game of 2018.

However it was not to be, the visitors took the lead on just 4 minutes in bizarre fashion when keeper Jonathan North received what appeared to be an innocuous back-pass which on attempting to clear up field cannoned off the on-rushing forward and into the back of the net. The visitors then went on to dominate the early minutes however the Stones grew into the game and created a number of good chances. The rhythm of the game was halted somewhat to allow treatment to Christian Smith and a visiting defender following a clash of heads.

The final chance of the half fell to the visitors with Self shooting from the edge of the box just over the bar

HT 0 -1.

The visitors were again on the front foot at start of the second half, Nombe was the first to come close when his shot hit the post, Bawling then tested North in the home goal with the keeper making a fine save. The visitors did get the ball into the home net on 52 minutes, however the referee rightly did not allow the goal to stand and awarded the home side a free-kick for an earlier infringement by the visitors in the build-up.

Playing down the slope Stones began to take control of the game, King in the visitors goal was now much busier as the visitors were now on the back foot, however much they tried Stones were unable to convert a number of chances which on another day may  have found the back of the net.

The visitors increased there lead when Tshimanga  won his side a throw deep inside Stones half which Jones delivered to Bawling in the six yard box he  set-up that man Tshimanga who slotted the ball past North in the home goal .

A flurry of late chances were created by the Stones but without result.
