Report: Wealdstone 1 – 2 Bromley
1 - 2
Stones lost their first game of pre-season yesterday in a 1-2 defeat to National League Bromley in the Brian Collins Challenge Trophy at Grosvenor Vale.
Bromley lead immediately into the second half through Jack Holland and sub George Porter doubled their lead with a moment of quality before Bradley Bubb scored a consolation for the Stones late on.
In a flat first half it was Bromley who had the lion share of the few chances on offer. Lebanese striker Omar Bugiel broke free on the half way line, beating two defenders for pace before he saw his strike well saved by Jonathan North.
Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe then had a good chance after he spun his marker on the edge of the area but his effort drifted harmlessly wide of North’s goal.
The best chance of the half then fell to Ogedi-Uzokwe after his strike partner Bugiel beat North to the ball to square to the Colchester United-loanee with an open goal in front of him, but Connor Stevens recovered well to put in a crucial block, as did Jerome Okimo with the rebound.
And the visitors lead just a minute into the second half after Holland headed in from a corner unmarked.
Half time substitute Roger Johnson then made two important blocks to keep Bromley ahead, firstly from Joe White after he played a one-two in the box with Wadah Ahmidi and then from Bradley Hudson-Odoi after he beat Tobi Adebayo-Rowling and cut into the box.
A further flurry of substitutions followed from both sides before Bromley doubled their lead on 72 minutes. Jordan Higgs did well out wide on Bromley’s right to get a deep cross away to Porter who slotted past North with a first time effort.
Bubb then set up a tense finish when he scored five minutes from time. Jeffrey Monakana put in a great delivery to James Clark who flicked onto Bubb who was lurking at the far post to tap it in.
