Preview – Warrington Town – 3 Feb – KO 15:00
We welcome Warrington Town to The Vale this Saturday (3 Feb) for a Buildbase FA Trophy 3rd Round tie kick-off 15:00
This is our first meeting with our visitors who play in the Evo-Stick Premier Division (Level 7) of the Northern Premier League (history is HERE) .
They are enjoying a good season in the league, currently sitting in 5th place on 48 points from 26 games played having won 14, drawn 6, lost 6, scoring 42 and conceding 31 goals. On their last league outing they played out a 1-1 away draw against table toppers Altrincham in front of a crowd of 1,419 last Saturday. In the Buildbase FA Trophy they entered the competition at the 1st Qualifying Round at the end of October where they defeated Bamber Bridge 2-1 at home, in the 2nd Qualifying Round they faced Ashton United and won through on penalties after a 2-2 draw in a reply with the original tie having finished all square at 1-1. In the 3rd Qualifying Round they defeated Tamworth 3-0 at home in late November. The 1st Round draw saw them play Altrincham winning 2-1 in a reply after the original tie at home had finished 0-0. The 2nd Round draw saw our visitors travel to Ebbsfleet Utd where they played out a 1-1 draw, before overcoming the National League side 2-0 at home in the replay.
We caught up with Stones manager Bobby Wilkinson earlier in the week and he had this to say about the tie on Saturday “ We are all looking forward to what will be an extremely tough FA Trophy tie on Saturday. We have seen how Warrington play and they are a high intensity pressing side, dangerous on the counter attack and are obviously confident in their abilities and have been on a good run. We expect a real battle but we will be more than ready and we are very confident ourselves – it will be a great game of football. I know our supporters will get behind the boys from the off as they always do, and be loud and proud throughout.”
It will be very interesting to see the starting eleven and game plan the Stones deploy come Saturday in what in what is likely to a real ‘cut and thrust’ cup tie. Get behind the lads, offer plenty of encouragement and support for the 90+ minutes as we look to progress in the Competition.
