Wealdstone bounced back from their midweek hammering in Weston-Super-Mare by scoring an impressive 3-0 victory over Bognor Regis Town at Grosvenor Vale to climb out of the relegation zone.

A spectacular first half free-kick from Danny Green began the scoring before two quick-fire second half goals from defenders Ryan Sellers and Ciaron Brown.

It was manager Bobby Wilkinson’s first victory as Stones boss since his arrival from Hungerford Town two weeks ago and he largely kept faith in the side that suffered a disappointing 5-1 defeat in midweek by making only three changes. Sellers, Green and Abobaker Eisa returned to the starting eleven with Josh Hill and Stephane Ngamvoulou on the bench with Kaid Mohamed left out completely.

The first half stayed a largely tight affair until Green broke the deadlock in the 38th minute with a superb, swerving 30-yard free-kick. This perked the Stones up and they went into the break with the lead and momentum.

They carried that into the second half with Rocks keeper Dan Lincoln tipping low strikes from Eddie Oshodi and Dan Fitchett around the post.

Bognor Regis did offer some threat with Chad Field collecting the ball on the edge of the area before hitting a thunderous strike off the post and out.

But the Stones doubled their lead on 71 minutes after Jerome Okimo won the ball into the middle to play to Sellers who cut inside and swerved a shot into the top corner.

The home side grabbed a deserved third goal just six minutes later when Brown rose highest in the area to bullet a header past Lincoln from a Green corner.

Matty Whichelow almost added a fourth but his shot was tipped over the bar by Lincoln.

The win saw Wealdstone move out the bottom three into 17th and they go into Monday night’s home game against Poole Town with confidence reinstalled.
