Wealdstone played out an absorbing and feisty 1-1 draw with league rivals Chelmsford City in the Buildbase FA Trophy 3rd Qualifying Round at Grosvenor Vale on Saturday

Mustafa Tiryaki and Shaun Batt both scored from headers with Sam Cox shown a red card in the second half for two bookable offences.

Bobby Wilkinson made one change from Tuesday night’s 3-3 draw at Dartford and it was enforced, Ciaron Brown replaced Matt Day who was suffering from illness.

Kick off was delayed for 10 minutes due to Chelmsford fans and players being stuck in traffic on the M25 and their disrupted build-up showed with Wealdstone dominating the first half.

The powerful Tiryaki offered the first warning when he chested and volleyed Ryan Sellers cross at Sam Beasant from the edge of the box on seven minutes.

Abobaker Eisa then made one of his trademark runs beating Mark Haines and Luke Daley before his low cross almost forced Michael Spillane to fire into his own net.’ And on 33 minutes the Stones took a richly deserved lead. Danny Green’s corner was met by a thunderous, towering header by Tiryaki opening the Turkish forward’s account for his club.

Beasant then did well to deny Eisa a few minutes later. Green played a quick-thinking low free-kick to Eisa that caught Chelmsford’s defence napping but Eisa’s shot was well held by the keeper.

Then in the 59th minute the game took a turning point. Cox nipped Chris Dickson with the slightest of touches and, already on a booking, referee Will Finnie found himself surrounded by the entire Chelmsford team barring keeper Beasant and showed Cox a second yellow card.

But the Stones continued to offer a goal threat on the break and from set pieces with Beasant doing well to deny Eisa and Luke Williams.

The red card however allowed Clarets boss Rod Stringer to make more attacking substitutions and they scored through a combination of two of their replacements.

Chelmsford’s Daniel Green put in an inch-perfect cross for Shaun Batt who nodded past Jonathan North with ten minutes to go to send the tie into a replay.

Wealdstone and Chelmsford will find out their potential opponents on Monday lunchtime when the 1st Round draw is made at Wembley Stadium, with both teams deciding the tie on Wednesday evening, 19:30 Kick Off at Chelmsford’s Melbourne Stadium (note earlier kick -off time).

WEALDSTONE: North, Oshodi, Sellers, Brown, Olomowewe, Cox, Williams, Okimo, Tiryaki (Wellard 62), Green, Eisa.  Subs not used: Goodger, Whichelow, Wilson, Hippolyte-Patrick.
