Report – Wealdstone 1 – 0 Watford U23
1 - 0
A late winner from Abobaker Eisa gave Wealdstone a 1-0 victory over Premier League Watford’s Under-23 side at Grosvenor Vale.
The former Uxbridge midfielder produced a moment of magic to win the game, cutting inside, beating his man and swerving a shot past Sam Howes in the 86th minute.
Chances were limited for both sides in what was a good pre-season test for both sides, with Wealdstone knocking the ball around well and Watford looking, as expected, a very organised outfit.
The Hornets’ side included Alex Jakubiak who has a strong Football League pedigree after a series of loan moves away from Vicarage Road and it was him who had a good chance 11 minutes in, shrugging off Josh Hill and swerving a shot goal-bound that Jonathan North tipped wide.
Jakubiak’s experience stood out as he looked to be the main player creating chances in the second half. Firstly glancing a header just over and lastly hitting a shot into the side netting with 10 minutes to play.
But it was Eisa who won it with a piece of trickery out on the left, taking on Joy Mukena and striking past Howes.
He almost repeated his heroics just a minute later, doing the same thing to one of Watford’s trialists and unleashing a shot from further out, this time coming off the outside of the post.
After the match there was news that Stones star defender Ciaron Brown will be trialling at Sheffield Wednesday this week, but, unfortunately, a nasty looking ankle injury to left back Ryan Sellers necessitated a hospital visit for the former Wycombe player.
Wealdstone: North (Constable 79), Oshodi (Hunt 64), Brown (Harwood 45), Cox (Sheckleford 64), Hill (Eisa 64), Okimo (Godfrey 64), Green (Whichelow 45), Wellard (Ijaha 64), Benyon (Hippolyte-Patrick 64), Fitchett (Kearney 64), Sellers (Wellard 81)
