Wealdstone qualified for their second Middlesex Cup final of the season after a comfortable 2-0 victory away to Uxbridge in the Charity Cup semi-final on Tuesday evening.
Goals early in each half from Joe White and Matty Whichelow decided the tie as the Stones Southern League Division One Central opponents rarely troubled their backline.
Gordon Bartlett made seven changes to the side that drew with Hemel Hempstead Town on the weekend with David Hunt making a full return from injury.
And it was Hunt’s long throws that caused Uxbridge problems as early as 50 seconds in when White almost toe-poked home from a throw.
Nathan Mavila also returned to the side playing right midfield and his crossing and pace threatened the Reds all game. He crossed in for White in the seventh minute and the Dagenham & Redbridge forward glanced a header over Hossam Hassan and into the net.
Anthony Thomas had Uxbridge’s best chance of the game just 20 minutes in. Connor Channon picked out the forward unmarked at the far post but he headed into the side-netting.
Mavila almost grabbed a goal for himself. Hunt rose highest against Craige Tomkins to flick on to Aryan Tajbakhsh and he played Mavila through on goal but Hassan tipped his effort wide.
Whichelow doubled Wealdstone’s lead just nine minutes into the second half. Ryan Sellers picked the winger out with a precise cross-field ball and the former-Watford man cut inside and unleashed a fierce strike into the top corner from 25-yards out.
Substitute Jonny Wright almost repeated his quarter-final heroics. Whichelow’s shot stung the palms of Hassan and fell to Wright on the edge of the area but striking the ball on the half volley, it went just wide of the goal.
Thomas almost grabbed a consolation for the home side near the death. Channon again picked him out and with the offside trap beaten he took a poor touch allowing Luke Sheldrick to gather with ease.
The Stones will play Hampton & Richmond Borough or Ashford Town (Middlesex) in the final at Hanwell Town FC on Mon 1st May, kick off 19:30 . They will play their semi-final on Tue 25th Apr.
Wealdstone did however find out their Senior Cup final opponents this evening. Hampton & Richmond Borough beat Hanworth Villa 3-1 in their replayed tie. The final for that will take place on Sat 6th May, kick off 15:00 at Hampton’s Beveree Stadium.
