Report – Slough Town 2 – 2 Wealdstone
2 - 2
Wealdstone travelled to the new surroundings of Slough Town’s well-appointed Arbour Park on Tuesday evening for their second full pre-season warm up game. This proved to be a useful, and, more to the point, productive, work-out for the squad even without six first team regulars with work rate and determination in abundance. Several trialists did themselves no harm at all with some very solid performances but only time will tell who will make the cut with a more limited squad size this campaign.
Following the heat of Saturday’s win over Fulham at The Vale, this friendly was played out in incessant rain on the excellent 3G surface. Stones started in lively fashion with Elliott Godfrey flashing a strike over and then Ricky Wellard’s effort was pushed away by Rebels keeper Jack Turner.
Stones took the lead after 17 minutes from Dan Fitchett who swept home via a smart cross from Shaquille Hippolyte-Patrick. Dylan Kearney again impressed with his strong hold up play but his luck in front of goal was out on the night with several attempts off target. Slough picked up after a slow start and the experienced Gavin James and then Chris Flood went close.
The home side equalised 10 minutes are the re-start when a cross from Matt Lench was flicked home by Chris Flood with Stones under far more pressure. Wealdstone brought on all their available subs mid half and play became increasingly unpredictable but they were still able to retake the lead through the excellent Liam Harwood albeit a short-lived advantage. Within a minutes, the Rebels pegged the away side back with a looping header that deceived sub keeper Raven Constable, Paul Hodges the scorer.
Stones now look forward to entertaining a Watford U23 side on Saturday at The Vale, kick off 3pm
