Concord Rangers 0 – 1 Wealdstone
0 - 1
Wealdstone bounced back from their heavy weekend defeat at the hands of Ebbsfleet in gritty style on Tuesday evening with a narrow victory over Concord Rangers
Concord on the other hand were looking for a second straight victory after their first win against Weston-Super-Mare on Saturday and so Stones were expecting a tough battle to claim the points at the Aspect Stadium.
Concord striker Dumebi Dumaka was looking lively in the early exchanges, and he was inches away from breaking the deadlock before his strike was brilliantly saved by Jonathan North. Stones had a couple of opportunities through Elliot Benyon and Ricky Wellard but Rangers defence snuffed out chances when they were carved out.
Sam Collins was kept out by North but it was goalless at the break.
The home pressure continued after the break, with Joao Carlos’ strike agonisingly wide but then Wealdstone struck.
Tom Hamblin rose highest from a corner and powered home 10 minutes into the second-half.
Stones defence came under expected fire and a number of opportunities went wide of the post as the Beach Boys wasted good chances to level, although Marvin Ekpiteta did brilliantly to clear from his goal-line as Wealdstone made a rare foray forward.
With the contest seconds away from the final whistle it was hearts in mouths time as Dumaka struck the bar with a header but Wealdstone held on to record a vital win.
As a result, Stones are now 6th in the Vanarama National League South table and now look forward to an intriguing FA Cup tie at the Vale this Saturday versus Histon of the Evo Stick League Division One, KO 15:00
