A mixed Stones squad of trialists and first team fell to defeat to Biggleswade Town at the well-appointed and picturesque surroundings of the Carlsberg Stadium on Saturday

The hosts play one level below Wealdstone in the more robust Evo-Stik Southern League Premier. The Waders looked to play with a greater, direct intensity that Stones and with their physical and uncompromising style they dictated more of the play than Gordon Bartlett and his coaching staff would have liked or possibly expected, despite the humid conditions and changed line-up.

Early pressure from Waders big forwards caused problems for Stones and the home side went ahead just minutes into the friendly contest. Stones could have gone further behind after 15 minutes play but Stones keeper Harry Doherty made an excellent save.

Stones started to play with some snappier midfield moves orchestrated by Ricky Wellard but they conceded again when a powerful long range strike gave Doherty no chance 10 minutes before the break. Stones worked hard to break through with Sahr Kabba getting some strikes in but the robust Waders defence held firm.

Numerous substitutions in the second period by both sides didn’t change the score line with the best chance falling to Stones late on when Josh Hutchinson’s goal bound strike was well saved by the home keeper

Next Tuesday there is a change of opponents when Egham Town come to The Vale in place of Hayes & Yeading United . Kick off 7.45pm

Wealdstone:  (All substitutes used): Doherty, Oshodi, Smith, Cadmore, Hamblin, Wellard, Maximov, Cain, Kabba, Hutchinson, Hoban
