Wealdstone progressed into the quarter-finals of the Middlesex Senior Cup after picking up a 3-2 victory over hard-working Bedfont Sports.

The Eagles of the Combined Counties League twice equalised, cancelling out the strikes of Scott McGleish and Omar Koroma. Terence Carter scored the winning goal with nine minutes to go.

Stones went ahead early on. David Hunt lofted a free-kick into the box which was headed clear, but only as far as McGleish on the edge of the area who netted his third goal in as many Middlesex Cup games this season.

Alaa Drissi then hobbled off with injury, forcing Bedfont manager Paul Johnson to completely change his system and that benefitted the Eagles as they ended the half in the ascendency.

Billy Jeffries pumped a long free-kick up field to Conor Moody brought the ball down and found Oluwole Akinsanya and he blasted an effort past Andrew Thomas, the Watford loanee got a good palm to it but the effort had too much power on it and Bedfont levelled just before half time.

Alex Lafleur followed up his man of the match performance against Harefield by producing another moment of quality, he whipped in a low, swerving ball which was spilled by Terry Buss and Koroma poked home the rebound to put Stones back in the lead.

Bedfont’s reply was instant and produced the goal of the game. Prince Mbengi picked up the ball on the edge of the area and unleashed an unstoppable swerving effort past sub-keeper Luke Sheldrick.

It was a kick in the teeth for Stones who worked hard to get back in the lead but their hard-work and effort paid off just eight minutes later and nine minutes from time.

Billy Gibson darted past Michael Kinsella and whipped a ball far post to Hunt and he squared the ball back across goal to Carter who had the easiest of finishes.

In injury time, Jeffries had a chance to send the game to extra time but headed wide. Koroma also had a headed chance to double his tally but Buss tipped over the bar.
