Wealdstone FC began their Middlesex Senior Charity Cup campaign in rampant style as they romped past Combined Counties League Division One side CB Hounslow United, who are three divisions below the Stones, 9-0 in the first round of the regional tournament, thanks to the contributions of first-half hat-trick hero Jefferson Louis and five-goal star Connor Calcutt.

Despite the contrasting starts the two teams have had this season, the gulf between divisions told from the outset of the game as the Stones dominated possession and had the wide majority of the attacking play, and created plenty of chances to open the scoring.

Eventually Wealdstone’s dominance in the game was rewarded with the opening goal. A cross came in from the right which met the head of Jefferson Louis to make it 1-0 to the Stones. His growth in confidence told as he doubled the lead for Wealdstone with a long-range effort.

Louis eventually completed his hat-trick on 35 minutes as excellent work on the left from Calcutt produced a telling cross which nicely met the head of Louis. Connor Calcutt could’ve had a first-half hat-trick himself, but eventually got his first goal for Wealdstone as he latched onto the rebound from his initial shot to give the 13-time winners a 4-0 lead at half-time.

Wealdstone continued their dominance in the second-half, as Jefferson Louis unselfishly nodded down for midfielder Dan Brown to fire home. Soon it was 6-0 as Connor Calcutt got his second goal of the game from a long-range effort that flew into the top corner, and then 6-0 became 7-0 as Calcutt drilled home for his hat-trick from the edge of the area. Wealdstone didn’t stop there, as Calcutt, who grew in confidence as the game progressed, grabbed a further two goals in quick succession to complete the rout and make it 9-0.

This was the confidence boost that Wealdstone needed, particularly strikers Jefferson Louis and Connor Calcutt. Good displays from the team, including an assured comeback from Tom Cadmore and a solid debut for Frenchman Ibrahim Diallo, should put behind the slow start that the Stones have had and now Wealdstone have to transfer that confidence into their next game at Basingstoke on Saturday.
