Wealdstone 2 – 0 Hayes & Yeading Utd

MATT BALL’S third league goal in as many games helped Wealdstone towards Conference South safety against fellow strugglers Hayes & Yeading.
Ball struck immediately after half time and Jefferson Louis later added his first league goal for the club as they stretched their unbeaten league run to 11 games.
A cautious start meant it was 28 minutes before Watford loanee Luke O’Nien produced the first on target for Stones.
The hosts should have gone ahead two minutes later when Jefferson Louis’ deft touch left Ball in the clear, but the midfielder delayed his shot and Calum Kitscha was smartly out to parry.
Dean Inman put a dangerous cross from debutant Scott Davies out of harm’s way, while O’ Nien flashed an effort narrowly wide and Louis saw a shot from the edge hit Jolly and trickle wide.
Wealdstone’s dominance told 30 seconds after the restart. Louis’ first effort was half-cleared, but when the former Oxford man tried again Kitscha could only parry and Ball firmly headed home the rebound.
Jonathan North tipped over a Gary McDonald free-kick in what was Hayes & Yeading’s first effort on target minutes later but Stones struck for a second time on 55 minutes.
Ball was the provider with a ball up the right channel to Louis who cut inside his marker and curled an unstoppable shot to the far corner.
Louis immediately limped off and in his absence the visitors mounted a late rally in which substitutes Mason Spence and Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe both went close, but the points were safe.
Wealdstone: North, Martin (Hammond 59), Watts, Parker, Cronin, Corcoran, Davies, Ball, Louis (McGleish 59), Jolly (Mavila 70) O’Nein. Other subs Godfrey, Lucien.
