SkyBet  League Two side Stevenage edged out National League South side Wealdstone in this entertaining friendly at The Vale played out in humid conditions.

A penalty struck home by Boro’s Brett Williams on the half hour mark separated the sides after a push in the box gave the referee no option but to award the spot kick as Boro largely dominated early proceedings.

Both sides took the opportunity to use a large number of trailists in the second period which altered the flow of the game, although Stones took advantage with some quicker and more energetic moves that almost resulted in an equaliser late on when sub Josh Hutchison just lobbed over from a good position.

Stones best efforts in the first half came from two good strikes from winger Shaun Lucien, one flew just wide whilst away keeper Chris Day pulled off an excellent save with the second to ensure his side kept a clean sheet.

Stones new midfielder Dale Binns caught the eye with some strong tackling and excellent passing in the first half.
