Wealdstone vs Kingstonian @ The Vale Sat 19 Apr KO 3.00pm – Match Preview
Wealdstone welcome play-off hopefuls Kingstonian to The Vale on Saturday, in their first match since being crowned champions of the Ryman Premier League. Victory away to Margate on Tuesday night wrapped up the long-anticipated league title for Gordon Bartlett’s side, ensuring they’ll be playing their football in the Conference South next season.
Worthy winners, The Stones have led the way in the division for the most part of the season, and Saturday’s clash is sure to be something of a carnival atmosphere in front of a home faithful who have rallied their team all the way to promotion. The champions, who are unbeaten in three games, have lost just one of their last nineteen league outings, and only two in front of their home support right throughout the campaign.
Kingstonian certainly won’t allow this to be a promotion party for their hosts though. With three games remaining, the South-West Londoners are currently three points inside the play-off positions, and will be looking to have their place cemented at the earliest opportunity. After a quite blistering start, The Ks’ form somewhat faltered throughout the middle months of the season. Alan Dowson’s side have picked it back up again though lately, and are currently on an eleven match unbeaten run.
The two sides both won 1-0 in their respective last fixtures, with Charlie Penny’s strike securing Stones’ league title, while Kingstonian crucially defeated play-off rivals Lowestoft Town thanks to Dee Okojie’s effort. Scott McGleish scored the game’s only goal in the two teams’ previous encounter this season back in December, sparking a run of four straight league victories for Wealdstone.
If that pattern was to return after this weekend, The Stones might find themselves half way up the Skrill South come late August, but they’ll know not to take anything for granted against a Kingstonian side on a play-off mission.
