Wealdstone Under 19’s are TREBLE CUP WINNERS!
Stanmore College’s Wealdstone youth team are celebrating a treble win this season having won the Albufeira Summer Cup in Portugal, alongside their other two cup wins; the Middlesex County Cup and the Football Conference Youth Alliance Division.
The team, which consisted of 20 under 19 scholarship programme students, was accompanied by three members of Stanmore College staff to Albuferia in Portugal for 5 nights, competing in a three-day tournament. The tournament comprised four teams; two professional Portuguese teams, Imortal DC and FC Ferrias, and a professional English club, Gillingham FC.
The games were very competitive and it was a tough challenge for the young Wealdstone side, especially adapting to the 30 degree heat, but they adjusted well and played excellent football. Out of the three games played, Wealdstone won two against Imortal DC, who they beat 1-0 and Gillingham FC, who they beat 3-1. It was the final game against FC Ferrias that the boys found tough and it resulted in a draw 0-0. However, Wealdstone won the tournament by one point having not lost any of the matches played.
Club coach, James Duncan, expressed how proud he was of the team saying, ‘another deserved cup win to Wealdstone. They have had an excellent season and doing the treble just shows how talented this young group of players are’.
