Wealdstone 0 – 1 Braintree Town
0 - 1
Braintree edged this competitive friendly Memorable match and in the process won the annual Brian Collins Memorial Trophy.
Stones started brightly against their Vanarama Conference visitors and pressed well, attempting to break down a strong defensive unit. Even so Jonathan North was called into action early on and brought off a fine save from a stray back pass. Tom Collins went close with a clever turn and strike before the visitor’s Dan Sparkes hit the cross bar with a fine strike from distance. On 35 minutes and against the run of play The Iron took the lead from Dan Walker whose routine long range strike somehow deceived North.
Braintree increased their tempo in the second half and Jordon Cox moved clear to smash an upright. Stones chances were limited as the match progressed but substitute Carl McCluskey was just off target with a deflected hit with 15 to go. Stones continued to work hard to find openings but The Iron defence stood firm
