Next up – Cray Wanderers 3.00pm at The Vale Sat 31st Aug – Match Preview
Wealdstone welcome Cray Wanderers to The Vale on Saturday afternoon, where they’ll be looking to record their fourth straight league win.
The Stones began the season with three successive draws, but three wins in seven days has guided them up into fifth place, as they now look to build on a very solid start .
Cray have had an uninspiring start to the season, winning one and losing four of their five games, and have the league’s leakiest defence by some distance.
Gordon Bartlett’s side ultimately hammered Enfield Town 4-1 on Bank Holiday Monday in their second local derby of the new campaign. The hosts fell a goal behind in the early stages, before a Chris Moore header and Chris Wild own-goal had them ahead at the break. Scott McGleish added a third soon after to give the Stones some daylight, with Tom Pett rounding off the victory with five minutes to go.
The Wands were beaten 4-3 in a real cracker at home to Thamesmead Town last time out. After going a goal down early on, Cray got themselves level on the stroke of half-time, only to immediately concede and head into the interval 2-1 down. Thamesmead took a two-goal lead with twenty minutes to go, but Ian Jenkins’s men took it right to the wire, with Tommy Whitnell and Jo-Jo scoring either side of Stuart Zanone’s eventual winner.
On paper, this should be another win for Stones, a team in an improving vein of form against a side struggling for points. Unfortunately this division is never as clear-cut as that and banana skins are almost an ever present hazard. Bartlett’s men will have to pick up where they left off on Monday to ensure maximum points are taken, as they mount their assault on the upper reaches of the Ryman Premier Division.
Match day entry prices at The Vale are Adults £10, Concessions £5 & Under 16’s £2. Don’t forget if you are a Season Ticket holder for another club (except our match day opponents) you can get into The Vale for just £5 for any HOME Stones Ryman Premier Fixture this season.
