Wealdstone crashed agonisingly out of the FA Trophy on Wednesday evening falling to a late, late sucker  punch having taken the lead twice in a thrilling match at Steel Park

Stones will rue the chances they had to win the tie on Saturday when they completely dominated the Conference North side

Josh Moreman was the hero for Corby having been red carded for dissent in the 1-1 draw on Saturday, the striker hit the winner in stoppage-time as the higher ranked Corby celebrated in front of a near empty stadium.

The game was delayed by 15 minutes due to Wealdstone arriving late after being held up on the A1.

But Stones took the lead inside the first 10 minutes. Tom Pett skipped past Stefan Galinski on the left wing and squared for Peter Dean who beat Keeper Paul Walker with a firm strike to send Stones 100 odd travelling fans into raptures

Paul Malone for the Steelmen saw a header saved by Rikki Banks, who then reacted brilliantly to stop a follow-up effort.

Sam Ives was also denied by Banks before there was some controversy when Walker was ruled to have handled outside the penalty area.

However, he escaped with just a yellow card.

Home pressure began to tell and just before half-time Avelino Vieira got away down the left and eventually found Ives who smashed his volley into the corner with the help of a wicked deflection for the equaliser.

But Stones gradually fought their way back into the game and they regained the lead shortly after Lee Chappell had shot just wide.

Richard Jolly crossed to the far post and Dean pounced for his second of the night.

But almost immediately, Ives struck the post and Moreman was denied by another great save from Banks after he was sent clear by Vieira.

Moreman had seen a shot cleared off the line by Cronin having got past Banks, the frontman was the next to be denied by the Wealdstone gloveman as he parried his shot away.

But, from the resulting corner, the leveller did come as Carl Piergianni appeared to get the final touch to finally beat Banks as Stones faltered at just the wrong moment.

Corby went for a winner but Wealdstone who had a brilliant chance in the dying seconds when Jolly was sent clean through but uncharacteristically could only blaze over the bar.

The prolific Moreman then gut wrenchingly did what Stones couldn’t quite do and grabbed the glory as he raced away on the left and beat Banks at his near post and earn Corby a tie at home to Hayes & Yeading United in the first round proper.
