Wealdstone produced a five star display as they romped into the next round of the FA Trophy at the expense of near neighbours Uxbridge. A second successive Trophy hat-trick from Richard Jolly and a double from Britt Assombalonga ultimately sealed a crushing victory for the home side after a difficult opening period.

It was a nervy and tentative start from both sides, with a determined and confident looking Uxbridge side close to breaking the deadlock in the opening quarter of an hour when Stuart Farrell saw his header from a corner cleared off the line by Assombalonga.

Farrell’s chance appeared to act as a wake up call for the home side, and Richard Jolly almost put Wealdstone ahead in virtually their  first serious attack in the 20th minute, however his powerful header crashed off the inside of the post from a pin point cross from the marauding Alan Massey.

It was then the same combination of Massey and Jolly which saw Wealdstone take the lead six minutes before half time though, with Jolly making no mistake to head home from close range from another superb cross from the full back.

Jolly then added a second just three minutes later, latching onto a through ball from Chris O’Leary before rounding Uxbridge ‘keeper Liam Stone. It looked like the prolific striker had taken the ball too far, but he was able to produce a trade mark finish from an acute angle to ensure his side took a two goal lead into the break.

The Reds began the second half well on top as they desperately fought to keep the tie alive, with Danny Julienne firing a free
kick just wide, before Wealdstone ‘keeper Jonathan North had to be at his best to produce a stunning save, diving full length to his left to deny the same player.

Despite the visitor’s early charge, Britt Assombalonga effectively killed off the tie and the away side’s hopes in the 62nd minute, turning smartly past a defender before slamming the ball home from fully 20 yards.

Assombalonga was certainly enjoying himself, and he grabbed his second of the afternoon five minutes later, heading home unmarked from a superbly crafted Richard Jolly cross.

With Stones now cruising, Jolly then added yet more gloss to the scoreline in the 83 minutes, as the deadly striker completed his hat-trick with a viciously accurate effort from 20 yards to round off a comprehensive victory for Wealdstone and a great all round team performance.
