Folkestone Invicta 1-1 Wealdstone
1 - 1
A stunning goal from Kurtney Brooks earned Wealdstone a point on Tuesday night as they drew 1-1 with struggling Folkestone Invicta at a soaking wet Buzzlines Stadium. Stones will perhaps feel though that this was a case of two points lost as they dominated the second half and had what looked like a perfectly good strike from Richard Jolly chalked off.
Stones got off to the worst possible start on 8 minutes when Jonathan North could only parry an effort into the path of Jimmy Dryden who slotted home the rebound gratefully. The away side looked for a response, and Kieron Knight went close twice, firing wide and then also seeing his effort from a quick free kick saved.
They then had a penalty shout turned down, as the in form Richard Jolly was seemingly brought down by the Folkestone goalkeeper, however the referee waved play on much to the bewilderment of the Stones away following. The heavy pitch was starting to play a factor as the half wore neared its end, with both sides struggling to play decent football due to the boggy playing surface.
The second half began with Stones pushing forward in desperate search of an equaliser, and they thought they had one when Richard Jolly put the ball in the net, however his effort was ruled out for offside, much to the away side’s amazement.
They did pull level on 61 minutes though, when the impressive Kurtney Brooks picked up the ball and fired an unstoppable shot from 25 yards which had the goalkeeper routed to the spot. It was the former Watford mans 2nd goal in three games.
Stones then threw everything at Folkestone for the remainder of the game, with Jerome Federico and Knight both seeing their efforts well saved by the Folkestone ‘keeper.
It wasn’t too be though, and Stones had to settle for a point as they desperately look to keep in touch with the playoff positions. Next up for Stones is a tough looking trip to Kingstonian on Saturday, before a home tie with Cray Wanderers the following week.
