Wealdstone warmed up for their big FA Trophy tie with Uxbridge by securing a crushing victory over Enfield Town in the Middlesex Senior Cup on Tuesday evening, with Stones recent loan signings from Watford each grabbing a brace of goals.

In a tie which Stones dominated from start to finish, it took them just 10 minutes to take the lead with Britt Assombalonga side footing past the goalkeeper for his second goal in as many games. The visitors soon found themselves two up, with Assombalonga robbing a defender before squaring to Alex Dyer who curled a delightful 25 yard left footed effort in off the bar. Wealdstone’s goalkeeper Titus Poniskaitis then had to be alert, saving smartly low down to his left from a well struck effort as Enfield desperately tried to stay in the game.

Any hope of an Enfield come back was looking increasingly unlikely though, especially after Stones added a third five minutes before half time when Scott Fitzgerald slotted home from the penalty spot after Connor Smith had been brought down.

The second half began in much the same fashion, and Connor Smith added a fourth for Stones soon after the restart, slotting home after the Enfield ‘keeper could only punch a cross into the path of the young midfielder.  The Hornets loan pair of Smith and Assombalonga certainly looked like they were enjoying themselves and Assombalonga was able to grab his second of the night on the hour mark, heading powerfully home from Smith’s cross for his sides fifth.

It was now a case of damaged limitation for the home side, and they could have grabbed some consolation in the 65th minute, however they had a goal ruled out from a quickly taken free kick as the referee was seemingly not ready.  Smith then put yet more gloss on what had been a comfortable night for Stones late on, when he finished off a weaving run by slamming home his sides sixth of the night.  It rounded off what was a very satisfying night for Stones who can now look forward to Saturday’s home tie with Uxbridge in the FA Trophy, 3pm kick off.
