Wealdstone fought through an eventful and entertaining Middlesex Senior Cup tie at Ashford on Tuesday evening with a morale boosting victory in extra time. The match sparked spectacularly into life late on as Stones came from behind twice to snatch the win, with all three substitutes getting onto the score sheet.

Stones were sluggish in the first half against a lively home side and paid the price, conceding two goals including a penalty given away by Sean Cronin. But Wealdstone rallied in the second period and when substitute Richard Jolly entered the fray matters perked up considerably when he netted with 20 minutes left on the clock. Stones late equaliser from Peter Dean sent the tie into over time; the sides remained deadlocked at 2-2 at the end of the first period of extra time as Stones stepped up the pace.

Wealdstone were rocked within a minute of the final turnaround when the Tangerines netted with a good strike, but the away side replied immediately through a great goal from sub Alex Dyer. The home side went close and then Stones thought they had gone ahead when Lee Chappell headed home from Scott McCubbin’s cross but it was ruled out for offside.

But Stones won the tie 3 minutes from the end of extra time when Wes Parker headed home from a corner to send them into the next round.
