Wealdstone’s lamentable record against Billericay continued with miserable   predictability on Tuesday evening and consigned Stones to their third straight loss away from home. Speaking on the Wealdstone FC ClubCall line after the match, Stones Manager Gordon Bartlett was understandably far from happy: ‘I can’t hide my disappointment. We lacked creativity and confidence. We have to worker harder as a side and we need to have a good look at ourselves; the mentality has to change – and change quickly. Some of our passing and decision making was woeful tonight’

A powerful header from Town’s centre half Chris Wild early in the second  half was enough to give Billericay the three points at New Lodge. The win made it three wins out of three for the Blues at home and three defeats out of three away for the Stones.

The Essex side made a bright start to the game with Wealdstone ‘keeper Jonathan North doing well to hold a well struck shot from Matt Hall, and Stones had a let off when Leon McKenzie thought he had scored when he headed in but was denied by the linesman’s flag. As the half progressed Wealdstone did show more of attacking prowess but they were unable to seriously trouble Town’s debutant keeper Morgan who despite looking uncertain at times was not tested enough.

The only goal of the game came five minutes into the second half. The Blues were awarded an unnecessary free kick on the right wing for a foul on Junior Luke. Hall delivered a good cross that found Chris Wild unmarked and the huge defender needed no second invitation to power home his header past the exposed North.  Lee Chappell was fortunate to only receive a yellow for a robust challenge at Ian Cousins that left the Billericay captain needing treatment on the touchline.

As the game wore on, Stones started leaving gaps at the back as they pushed forward in search of an equaliser. Wes Parker did superbly near the end to clear off the line, preventing further damage to Stones goal difference.

Tring Athletic lay in wait in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup this Saturday at The Vale and Stones will need to lift their game significantly if they are not to slip on a massive banana skin.
