This afternoon’s friendly game at the Vale ended 0-0 in a tight, competitive and absorbing contest.

The nearest Hampton came to a goal in the first half was when Alan Massey expertly hooked the ball off the goal line after Luke Woods had been beaten. For Wealdstone midfielder David Hicks had a shot heading for the top corner saved by the Hampton keeper. After 32 minutes Stones defender Lee Chappell suffered a badly cut left leg and was replaced by Graeme Montgomery with Gary Burrell dropping back to the left back position. In the second half Hampton’s goalie failed to hold a corner and a Stones goalbound effort was cleared from the goal line by a relieved defender, a further chance fell to Gary Burrell on the left of the box after some neat interchange play between the midfield and forwards but his rasping cross shot just whistled past the far post.

Play was end to end throughout an entertaining match with Stones defence again playing well and looking very solid against a competitive and full strength Blue Square outfit.
