North Greenford United 1 – 4 Wealdstone
1 - 4
Two goals in each half gave Wealdstone a comfortable win over their Combined Counties League (Premier Division) opponents at their Berkeley Avenue ground this afternoon. Early on a shot from Ben Clarke rebounded off a post as Wealdstone dominated the early stages with Graeme Montgomery a constant threat.
After 12 minutes Wealdstone took the lead when Stephen Hughes headed home following a corner. Stones were creating numerous chances but their final shots were going just wide of the home side’s goal, Montgomery, Hughes and Alexander just off target. With 28 minutes gone Tony Hingerton equalised when he beat Luke Woods to a through ball and lobbed the ball over the advancing keeper. With just four minutes remaining in a half that had been dominated by the Stones, David Hicks scored from close range to make it 2-1 to the Stones.
The second half followed a similar pattern with more shots from the visitors just going wide of the home side’s goal. With 65 minutes gone Wealdstone brought on their five substitutes replacing Billy Hawes, Chris O’Leary, Stephen Hughes, Ben Alexander and Graeme Montgomery. It was two of these substitutes who scored to make the final score 4-1 to the Stones. Both scored with well hit shots from the edge of the penalty area, Wayne Reid after 70 minutes and Derek Quaye on 77 minutes.
