Wealdstone’s second friendly on successive nights ended in a 1-1 draw when they visited old rivals Enfield Town on Tuesday evening. This was virtually a full strength line up for Stones with the talking point of the evening being the surprise but very welcome return of ex QPR goalkeeper Sean Thomas who played in the No 1 jersey for the full 90 minutes.

The first half was a tight affair with Stones midfield – featuring the returning Carl Martin – and defence repelling Es attempts to get close to goal although Sean Thomas brought off two good saves when a full strength Enfield did briefly threaten. The half ended goalless.

With the rain pouring down incessantly in the second period it was Wealdstone that opened the scoring with a superbly crafted goal scored by David Hicks on 57 minutes – his third pre season goal. By the time Hicks had stroked the ball past a bemused Es keeper Stones had passed the ball at least 9 times with 7 players involved and is an indication of the quality of football that this squad is capable of delivering.

Stones management understandably changed the side around as the half progressed to test all their four substitutes and this affected the balance a little. Enfield drew level through a somewhat dubious penalty awarded after 72 minutes when ex Stone Rudi Hall slotted past Thomas.

Another good work out played in testing conditions. Stones will entertain Hemel Hempstead in their next warm up match on Saturday 9 August at the Vale, kick off 3pm.

Wealdstone: Thomas, McCoy, Massey, Hicks, Gray, Martin, Quaye, Forbes, Alexander, Ashe, Burrell. Subs all used: O’Leary, Clarke, Ashy, Tripp.
